Preventing Burnout: The Importance of Self-Care for Practitioners

This workshop identifies psychological factors that contribute to the signs, symptoms and consequences of burnout from practice. The importance of healthy boundaries and self-care for practitioners is highlighted and connected to practitioners remaining refreshed and nurtured in sustaining energy and enthusiasm for life and practice. Psychological factors that can interfere with effective self-care will be explored and how self-care can be effectively integrated into values, attitudes and life-style will be examined.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify psychological factors contributing to signs, symptoms and consequences of burnout from practice.

2. Define healthy boundaries and the connection to self-care.

3. Discuss the significance of self-care for practitioners, how to refresh and nurture energy and enthusiasm for life and practice.

4. Examine the psychological factors than can interfere with self-care.

5. Explore how self-care can become integrated into values and attitudes contributing to a life- style that supports and sustains self.
